Mervin K. "Boots" Hogge, 94, died July 26, 2014 at his home with family at his side. Mervin was born in Gloucester County to the late Norman and Mary Hogge. Mervin served his country in the U S Navy during WWII. He was retired from the Transportation Department at Naval Weapon Station, Yorktown. Mervin was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class and a member of the Achilles Masonic Lodge No. 281 AF and AM. He was a true southern gentleman, loving and devoted to his family. His friendship was genuine and he was a man of great faith, integrity and compassion. He will be missed.
He was preceded in death by parents Norman F. and Mary V. Hogge; his wife, Mary June Hogge; sister, Mae Hogge; brothers, Marcellus Hogge, Norman Hogge, Marion L. Hogge, Mitchell Hogge and Delbert Hogge; and son in law, Carroll Foster.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia A. "Patsy" Foster, Dale Keith Hale and husband, John and Anita Starr Davis and husband Brian; son, Mervin Carlton Hogge and wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Angela Pierce and husband, David, Wade Foster, Christopher Hale and wife, Jennifer, Brent Hogge, Ryan Hogge and wife, Diana, Cory Davis and Eric Davis; great grandchildren, Justin Pierce, Heather Pierce, Jasmine Hogge, Nicholas Hogge, Rebecca Foster and Marie Foster; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service officiated by Reverend Dr. Richard Croxton will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Providence Baptist Church, Hayes. Interment will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
