John F. "Jack" Slavnik, Jr. born December 5, 1928 passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on September 30, 2014, exactly two months to the day after his wife of 66 years, Peggy passed. Jack never met a stranger and had a smile for everyone. Jack was a self made businessman opening Jack's Esso Service Center in 1948 in Newport News, Va. In the 1950's he moved on to open York Auto Parts in York County and in 1960 he opened Gloucester Auto Supply at Gloucester Point. He moved his family to Gloucester in 1962. Jack was a member of the St Tammany Lodge No 5 AF & AM, Hampton. Jack and his wife Peggy vacationed at their home in Fort Myers Beach, Florida and their summer home in Urbanna. He and Peggy loved family gatherings and cookouts with all their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jack was also preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Estella M. Slavnik; sister, Melva Pearce; and brother, Ralph Burhans.
He is survived by sons, John F. Slavnik, III (Cheryl), James H. Slavnik, Daniel A. Slavnik (Bonnie) and Tony C. Slavnik; grandchildren, Katie, John, Matthew, Natasha, Kelly, Shane, Casey and Brooke; and great grandchildren, Beth, Kelsey, John, Morgan, Frances, Cambree and Waylon.
A memorial service officiated by Reverend Bill West will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday from 2 until 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
