Hayes: Helen Walden Jenkins Walker, age 90, originally born in Middlesex County, and has been a resident of Hayes for the past 70 years, passed away on October 8, 2014 at the York Convalescent Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Mary Alice Walden; her husbands, Jennings Jenkins and Bernard Walker; her sons, Jennings Jenkins, Jr. and Ricky Jenkins, six brothers and four sisters.
Helen was a school bus driver for Gloucester County for years, secretary of the Gloucester County Transportation Department, and an employee of Village Lanes Bowling.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet Pitts (husband, Jack); granddaughters, Deanna Dertien (Platte, SD), Kelly Gregory (Lucama, NC) and Penny Hall (Hayes, VA); and grandson, Ronnie Jenkins (Mathews, VA); two great granddaughters and three great grandsons.
The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Rodney Autry and Reverend Richard Whiteheart officiating. Interment will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery.
Special thanks to the employees of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital and York Convalescent Center for the superior care and love they extended to our family. Your kindness and compassion was just "over the top."
